Bristol

This brand new building is situated by Bristol’s Floating Harbour, offering a community-based work environment.
Overall, our flythrough provided 4-8 seconds of cut shot animation, exploring key internal zones. We worked closely with our client and their agency, to ensure the attractive amenities were showcased to their true potential. Our walkthrough animation and still CGIs can be found on the Assembly Bristol website and their social media.
CGI is short for computer-generated imagery. Put very simply, it is a process in which 2D and 3D models are created using computers. This evolves into computer-generated videos and animations, depending on what the end goal is. Our toolbox includes the latest 3D modelling and rendering software to provide photorealistic 3D visualisations of new developments.
Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is made by 3D visualisers working in 3D modelling software. We often start with a 2D drawing of a building and make it into a virtual model. We will then add realistic surface materials, landscaping and lighting effects to it. To add a realistic feel we will look to add people in and around buildings. We can also add a fly through to heighten your senses and give you a feel of the environment.
Using CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) to show prospective buyers a new build property before it’s built provides a clear and compelling understanding of what the home will look like. This builds confidence in potential purchasers, helping them to make an informed decision while also allowing potential customers to engage emotionally with what it could be like to live in their future home.
Our CGI team will work with you and your architect to create 3D visualizations based on your plans. We often use architectural drawings, floorplans, elevations and site plans. Additionally, M&E, kitchen and bathroom plans are used to get the CGI as close to the design as possible. Our team will also use specifications for external materials and landscaping. By the same token, for internal CGI we use specifications for internal materials, fixtures and fittings. Again, this results in a much more realistic outcome.
A 3D flythrough is a computer-generated video of property development. It shows what a new building will look like before it is built. The video can tour the exterior and/or interior of a building. It is created by creating a 3D model of the building with dedicated modelling software.
Daily rates for CGI work can vary from £250 to £500 per day, depending on the project. A simple three-day job for a small development might cost around £1,000. A larger job, more complex, might cost £5,000. It is difficult to quote without architectural plans and without an understanding of your objectives. We would need to understand the complexity of the architecture for modelling before quoting official prices.
Firstly, please bear in mind that the best approach is to book your project in advance. It is always best practice to instruct the work in advance of your own deadlines. Rushed projects in any industry rarely reach a smooth desired outcome.
Single static CGIs are typically within a week, but there may be a lead time to book your project into the studio schedule.
3D flythroughs can take approximately 4-6 weeks to produce. This is due to the extent of 3D modelling involved and also rendering time. Rendering time can add 10-14 days to the end of the project for large and complex animations.
For a CGI package including images, animations and other property marketing materials, it can be 8-12 weeks. During this time, our team review WIP and provide feedback as the CGI develops.
Feel free to call us or send an email if you have any questions about this. Generally we work from architectural plans (floorplans, elevations and site plan). We need to understand how many viewpoints you are looking for. Whether you want static images only or additional work such as 3D flythroughs animations. We have plenty of examples for you to look at. All we ask is that you give the project a lot of thought upfront to avoid large deviations. We are easily approachable and more than happy to answer any questions that you may have throughout the project. Reach out to us if you have any questions.
